Results are now available from the 2008 NSDUH (National Survey on Drug Use and Health) From the OAS, (Office of Applied Studies in SAMHSA).
While there are some encouraging results there are also some not so encouraging trends.
The costs of dealing with the damages caused by addiction absorb 96 percent of the federal, state and local monies spent to handle this problem. In California the amount is 98 percent while just under 2 percent go to prevention and treatment of the problem.
